KSHSAA Activities

Band provides opportunities for high school students across the state to participate in band-related activities, competitions, and performances. KSHSAA oversees guidelines and regulations for marching bands, concert bands, and jazz bands. The program organizes district and state-level competitions where bands can showcase their musical talents, precision, and creativity. Bands are evaluated by judges who provide feedback and scores. KSHSAA also facilitates music festivals and clinics, offering a non-competitive environment for bands to perform and receive constructive criticism. The program promotes musical excellence, teamwork, discipline, and artistic expression among band members. Cheer provides opportunities for high school students to engage in cheerleading activities and competitions. The program includes regional and state championships where cheerleading squads can showcase their skills, choreography, and spirit through dynamic routines. KSHSAA Cheer promotes teamwork, athleticism, leadership, and school spirit among participants. It offers a platform for students to demonstrate their cheerleading abilities, contribute to their school community, and create memorable performances in a competitive and supportive environment. Choir offers high school students in Kansas the opportunity to participate in choir-related events and competitions. They organize district and state choir contests, where choirs compete and receive feedback from judges. Additionally, there are solo and ensemble competitions for individual singers and small groups. KSHSAA also facilitates non-competitive music festivals and selects an All-State Choir through auditions. The program provides a platform for students to showcase their vocal abilities, learn from adjudicators, and engage in a supportive and educational environment for musical growth. KSHSAA coordinates debate and forensics activities, including public speaking, speech competitions, and debate tournaments. Students participate in events like extemporaneous speaking, oral interpretation, persuasive speaking, and more, developing their communication and critical thinking abilities. Scholars Bowl is an academic competition in which teams of students from different schools compete in a quiz bowl format. There are various subjects, including history, literature, science, mathematics, and current events, testing students' knowledge and teamwork skills.
